Scope of TrainingThe training should cover the rights, duties, functions and limitations of Shop Stewards; trade union recognition and organisational rights; collective bargaining; collective agreements; industrial action; workplace dispute resolution; disciplinary, grievance and incapacity processes; principles of procedural and substantive fairness; employee representation during workplace processes; and the application of key employment legislation, including the Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act. The programme should further develop practical skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, consultation, ethical conduct and effective workplace representation.
