RFQ/OBP265/2026/27
________________________________________ 1. Project Description The contractor shall supply, prepare, and install a laboratory-grade epoxy flooring system over an area of approximately 240 square metres (±240 m²). The system must be: • Self-levelling • Non-slip • Chemical resistant • Installed to a total thickness of 4–5mm The completed flooring must be suitable for laboratory and industrial environments, ensuring durability, hygiene, and resistance to chemical exposure. ________________________________________ 2. Applicable Standards and Compliance All materials and workmanship must comply with: • South African National Accreditation System quality assurance requirements • South African Bureau of Standards specifications • Relevant SANS standards, including: o SANS 10070 – Application of resin-based floor systems o SANS 10108 – Hazard classification of chemical exposure o SANS 10400 – National Building Regulations All products must be applied strictly according to manufacturer specifications. ________________________________________ 3. Scope of Work 3.1 Surface Preparation • Remove all existing coatings, rubber, adhesives, grease, and contaminants • Mechanically prepare substrate by grinding or shot blasting • Repair cracks, joints, and surface defects using approved epoxy repair systems • Ensure substrate is dry, clean, and structurally sound • Verify moisture levels are within acceptable limits ________________________________________ 3.2 Priming • Apply approved epoxy primer to entire surface (±240 m²) • Ensure full penetration and sealing of substrate • Allow proper curing time before next application ________________________________________ 3.3 Epoxy Screed Application (4–5mm) • Install self-levelling epoxy system to achieve thickness of 4–5mm across ±240 m² • Ensure even distribution and consistent finish • System must be: o Chemical resistant (acids, alkalis, solvents) o Abrasion and impact resistant ________________________________________ 3.4 Non-Slip Finish • Incorporate non-slip aggregate into epoxy system • Ensure anti-slip finish suitable for laboratory safety requirements • Maintain balance between slip resistance and cleanability ________________________________________ 3.5 Topcoat / Sealing • Apply chemical-resistant epoxy or polyurethane topcoat • Final surface must be: o Seamless and smooth o Hygienic and easy to clean o Resistant to staining and chemical attack ________________________________________ 4. Workmanship Requirements • Work must be done by qualified and experienced applicators • Follow all manufacturer technical data sheets (TDS) • Protect surrounding areas and equipment • Ensure dust-free and contamination-free installation process ________________________________________ 5. Health, Safety and Environmental Requirements • Full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) • Use of proper PPE at all times • Ensure ventilation during installation • Safe handling and disposal of epoxy materials and waste ________________________________________ 6. Quality Control and Testing • Inspect substrate before installation • Monitor and confirm 4–5mm thickness • Conduct adhesion testing where required • Final inspection to ensure: o No bubbles, cracks, or peeling o Uniform non-slip finish o Full coverage of ±240 m² ________________________________________ 7. Completion and Handover • Clean and clear site after completion • Provide maintenance guidelines to client • Issue completion certificate upon approval ________________________________________ 8. Guarantee / Defects Liability The contractor shall provide a written 12-month guarantee from date of completion, covering: • Delamination or lifting of epoxy coating • Cracking due to poor workmanship • Surface defects and premature failure All defects arising within this period due to materials or workmanship shall be repaired at no cost to the client.
